Review of Optibac gut health gummies

Here we will give a hands-on review of Optibac gut health gummies and explain why they are good for gut health in a number of ways.

Gut health gummies are chewable sweets which contain both probiotics, that is beneficial bacteria for your gut, and prebiotics which act as food for the good bacteria in your gut.

About Optibac

Firstly, here’s a little about the company.

Optibac is a UK probiotic company which prides itself on being robustly science based. It offers a range of probiotic products for a variety of circumstances and needs including for women, kids, pregnancy, travel, immunity and more.

Ingredients

Optibac gut health gummies ingredients

There’s a lot to be happy about regarding the ingredients.

Probiotic strain

The probiotic strain included is Bacillus coagulans. This is a hardy probiotic strain often found in probiotic products (such as commercial kombucha) because of its ability to survive in extreme conditions, such as the acidic environment in your stomach on its way to your intestines.

Studies have shown it to improve digestion, inhibit bad bacteria and improve immune function.

It is a common probiotic strain to take for people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

While this is a great strain to choose, it is important to note that it is the only strain included.

Prebiotic content

The gummy contains fructooligosaccharides (FOS) which are natural fibres that feed good bacteria in your gut. It also contains citrus fibre.

Nutrients

The gummy contains Vitamin D and zinc to support immune function, and calcium for the normal functioning of digestive enzymes.

What is (thankfully) absent

It is great to see the gummy is free from:

  • added sugars

  • artificial sweeteners (which are not good for the gut)

  • artificial colours and preservatives

It is also vegan and gluten free.

Flavour

The flavour predominantly comes from various fruit concentrates

It smells of apples, strawberries and other berries.

It has a nice taste of mixed berries.

The consistency breaks down fairly quickly when chewed. It is not as chewy as other gut health gummies I’ve had. Some others have the same very chewy consistency of unhealthy sweets like wine gums. However, other gut health gummies don’t have the same healthy ingredients as this gummy so that is perhaps why.

Dosage

The stated dose is one gummy per day, with or without food. Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before taking it.
